Masayasu (Matt) Kodama

Masayasu (Matt) Kodama is a Managing Director with TrueNorth Capital Partners LLC, based in Tokyo, Japan. Mr. Kodama has over 25 years of experience in Tokyo and New York as an investment and corporate banker, and several years of experience as a corporate development executive responsible for its global M&A activities. His career as an M&A banker both in cross-border and Japan domestic transactions covers various strategic advisory assignments, including corporate mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, minority investments, fund raising for PE/VC, special situation transactions, and valuations/fairness opinions. He is also well-experienced in a broad spectrum of sectors & industries including transportation & logistics, real estate, business services, industrial manufacturing, consumer, retail, and healthcare.

Prior to joining TrueNorth, Mr. Kodama was with a large Japanese company as Global Head of M&A. During his tenure, he successfully led a number of transactions in the US, UK, Benelux, CEE, Taiwan, and Southeast Asia. In addition, he laid the M&A foundation for the company; establishing a deal sourcing network, evaluating M&A opportunities, monitoring post-merger integration (PMI) processes, and measuring investment performance. Prior to that, Mr. Kodama spent almost a decade in New York with Sagent Advisors (currently DC Advisory), SMBC Nikko Securities America, and Bentley Associates, where he held various positions including a member of the board, Head of Japan M&A, and Managing Director. Before moving to New York, he had spent over 15 years in Tokyo with Daiwa Securities SMBC and Sakura Bank (currently Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, or SMBC), engaged in M&A advisory, debt capital markets, project financing for large infrastructure projects, and big-ticket lease financing.

Mr. Kodama started his career at Mitsui Bank (subsequently SMBC). He received his B.A in Economics from the University of Tokyo and his MBA from Simon School Business at University of Rochester. He holds Series 7, 63 and 79 FINRA securities licenses, while in Japan he is also a Certified Member Analyst of the Security Analysts Association of Japan, and Real Estate Transaction Agent (inactive).
